Discover Africa’s Cape Town

Cape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa, and is the second most populated city in South Africa. Being one of the most multicultural cities in the world, every inch of the city has a story. In addition to its’ government offices, and rich history, Cape Town has a beautiful natural setting, making it one of Africa’s largest tourist destinations.

The city houses rich cultural history, and has held many famous political prisoners throughout its lifetime. When walking past Cape Town City Hall, be sure to note that Nelson Mandela made one of his first public appearances after his release in that very spot. Keep your eyes sharp for more historical monuments and activities throughout the city.

Cape Town is surrounded by natural beauty, quite literally. The City Bowl is quite famous as being part of Cape Town’s geography. The City Bowl is an amphitheatre shaped area around Cape Town, created by Signal Hill, Lion’s Head, Table Mountain and Devil’s Peak.

Each of these mountains is full of opportunity for exploration by tourists. Table Mountain brings travellers up in a cable car, saving them a long, winding walk up the slope. Get a breathtaking view of the city and appreciate the beauty of the natural wonder surrounding it.

Once you have gotten a view of the city from above, be sure to check out Cape Town’s beautiful beaches. The coasts are lined with beaches, but they are divided into two main sections. The False Bay beaches form the coast of the Cape Flats. The beaches below the mountains on the Atlantic Seaboard face west, and features beautiful views of the sunsets. The long sandy beaches of the West Coast are incredibly popular for their good surfing conditions. Because of the different sources of water flow, the water in the False Bay area are about 6-10 degrees warmer than that of the Atlantic or West Coasts.

For those interested in the exotic aquatic life, Cape Town is home to the Two Oceans Aquarium. The aquarium boasts seven exhibits, with large glass viewing windows. The most popular of these is the Predator exhibit, which features Stingrays, Green Sea Turtles, and Ragged-tooth Sharks, along with several other species. Visitors with a scuba diving licence are able to swim with the sharks in this exhibit!

Cape Town also offers several opportunities for whale watching off the coasts, the perfect activity for those looking to get out on the water!

Cape Town’s historical background makes it a perfect fit for their breathtaking natural surroundings. Be sure not to miss out on any of the spectacular attractions that make this such an incredible tourist destination.
